Founded in 2011, ALC was created with a single mission: to ensure every child, regardless of ability, has access to quality education and a brighter future. Its dedicated team of educators, therapists, and volunteers continues to break barriers, helping students across the island build confidence, learn life skills, and grow into empowered individuals ready to contribute to their communities.
“Our mission has always been to meet children where they are and show them where they can go. With the support of partners like UAB, we’re not just teaching, we’re transforming lives.”
Beverly Leblanc, Director, Achievement Learning Centre (Example)
What makes ALC exceptional is its home-based education model, developed after losing its facility in 2020. Rather than closing operations, the Centre responded with resilience, deploying educators into the homes of students to continue providing one-on-one learning and therapeutic support. This approach has enabled ALC to maintain its impact in remote communities and among families with limited mobility or resources.
Today, the Centre serves students between the ages of 3 and 18, creating customised educational plans, offering vocational training, and running parental support programs that encourage collaboration and inclusion.
But the mission does not end there. With no physical building and growing demand, the Centre is actively seeking funding for a new permanent location, one that can offer classrooms, therapy rooms, and community learning spaces.
Organisations like Universal Assets Bank have recently stepped in to support these crucial efforts, recognising the societal value of inclusive education. UAB’s backing helps bolster the Centre’s outreach and expand its services to reach even more families across Dominica.
“At Universal Assets Bank, we believe the strength of a community lies in how we uplift those most often overlooked. Supporting inclusive education through the Achievement Learning Centre is a commitment to equity, dignity, and lasting impact in Dominica.”
Eric, Manager - Universal Assets Bank.
In a society where children with disabilities often face social and economic exclusion, the Achievement Learning Centre is more than an institution, it is a movement for dignity, empowerment, and equity. And with increasing support from local and international allies, that movement is only gaining strength.
